Winter Uphill Travel Plan

As partners in recreation, Brighton and the US Forest Service have developed the following Winter Uphill Travel Policy to address increased uphill travel and backcountry access inside the resort. Brighton is committed to working with all users to reasonably permit access to public lands.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Parking is only allowed at the Brighton Store parking lot.NO PARKING IN THE MAIN LOT, THE BASE OF WESTERN LIFT OR THE BASE OF MILLY.  Please follow the instructions of all parking personnel.
  • A traffic light is mounted on the Brighton Center. Users must use the light as an indicator of whether uphill travel is permitted.
  • Check Brightonresort.com for the daily Uphill Travel Report. A red, yellow or green day will be indicated on the site.
  • Depending on conditions, the status may change. Regardless of what is indicated at Brightonresort.com if the light is red at the Brighton Center, it is a red light day.

RED LIGHT – NO UPHILL TRAVEL IS PREMITTED, ANYWHERE ANYTIME.

 

GREEN LIGHTOperational hours, (8:00 AM – 4:30PM)

 

Uphill travel is allowed ONLY on the following two routes. (please see map)

  • Catherine’s Pass Access:  Travel up the far right hand side of the M&M trail to Lost Maid trail. Proceed up Wren Hollow and follow the Brighton boundary to exit Brighton resort. No uphill travel permitted above this point.
  • Twin Lake Pass Access: Please travel along the far climber’s right of Christy’s to the Easy Out run to Evergreen run. Proceed up the Brighton boundary and exit at Twin Lakes Dam. No uphill travel permitted above this point.

GREEN LIGHTNon-operational hours, (4:30 PM- 8:00 AM)

 

Uphill travel only allowed on Western and Millicent.

  • NO uphill travel and is permanently closed in the following areas.
    Crest, Majestic, Explorer and Snake Creek areas. (See map)
  • Western areas above Golden Needle. (See map)
  • Milly areas climbers left of Christy Bowl and above Twin Lakes Dam. (See map)
  • NO TRAVEL PERMITTED IN Milly Bowl, Sol-Bright or Solitude areas EVER.
  • NO SKIING ON FRESHLY GROOMED RUNS, UP OR DOWN. Please be respectful of all snow cat operations and follow all instructions.

YELLOW LIGHT – Yellow light means you must exercise caution at all times.

 

  • Only used before Brighton officially opens in the fall and after Brighton closes in the Spring.

WINTER SEASON RULES OF CONDUCT:

Please remember Brighton is located in the Salt Lake Watershed. Dogs are not allowed.
Obey all avalanche closures and all signage on the mountain.
Please stay on the far edge of ski runs when traveling both uphill and down. Runs are groomed for the use of Brighton customers, please be respectful.
Expect to encounter machinery, mountain personnel, hazards, and other users anytime on the mountain. Yield to all equipment and follow instructions of all mountain personnel.
Wear head lamps and reflective clothing at all times.
You are responsible for your own safety and rescue.
No terrain park access is permitted.

Parking:

During Day Skiing Operating Hours:

Parking will be allowed at the Brighton Store Parking Lot, always follow the instructions of all parking personnel.

During Night Skiing Operating Hours:

Parking will be allowed at the Brighton Store Parking Lot, always follow the instructions of all parking personnel.

During Non-Operating Hours:

Parking: Parking will be allowed at the Brighton Store Parking Lot. Vehicles left in the Main lot will be booted and fines charged. Follow the instructions of all Brighton parking personnel.

Events:

Under no circumstances will private events be allowed without Brighton’s written permission.

During the Summer Season:

Brighton currently has no restrictions for use of the lands within its permit. Please remember that Brighton is located in the Salt Lake Watershed. Dogs are not allowed.

This plan will be reviewed and may change at any time depending on the needs of the resort.
