Your Picnic LunchBrighton is one of the few mountains that actually invites families to bring their own picnic lunches and sit down at tables and chairs. You don’t have to eat on a snowbank! Picnic lunch areas are located at the base of the mountain: on the main level of Brighton Center lodge, and on the main level of the A-frame. Both have soda vending machines. Both are right at the base of the mountain and non-skiers can get there on foot. Please no picnics or brown bag lunches in the Alpine Rose or Milly Chalet cafeterias. Off-site diningThe Brighton StoreThis charming restaurant is located in a historic log building at the start of the Brighton Loop Road. It’s the first building you’ll see on the left. It’s open in summer and it’s quite popular with visitors who drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon to hike or just to enjoy some cool mountain air and beautiful views. The menu is hearty, down home fare served by the fireplace on red checkered table cloths or at the counter. And while you’re there, enjoy the atmosphere. It’s one of the old original buildings and a step back in time. Be sure to snap a photo. In winter, it’s home to the Brighton Child Care center. STORE CLOSED UNTIL SPRING Silver Fork LodgeWinter Hours: Sun-Thur 8am to 9PM, Fri-Sat 8AM to 9:30PM It serves big portions so go extra hungry. Snow plow drivers and canyon sheriffs often stop there for a bite along their routes, so don’t be surprised if you see them. Back in the pioneer days, the building was originally a general store. Check out the photos on the walls of the good old days. Silver Fork Lodge has become famous for hospitality and authentic homemade meals. From the 50-year-old sourdough pancake starter, to succulent “canyon pepper steak,” this bed & breakfast offers a full-scale restaurant with the fuel to keep you going no matter where your taste lies. Located just 5 miles below Brighton.
